Matthew William Robinson

Matthew William Robinson (UK) has been Artistic Director of ŻfinMalta, the National Dance Company, since 2024 and works internationally in a wide range of contexts as a dancer, choreographer, rehearsal director, and curator. His choreographic works—often created in transdisciplinary contexts—and curated programmes have been presented at venues and festivals across Europe and beyond. For many years, Robinson was a dancer and rehearsal director with Scottish Dance Theatre, where he performed works by a number of international choreographers. In 2016, he became Artistic Director of VERVE, where he strengthened the ensemble’s reputation for bold commissioned works. From 2021–2024, Robinson was Artistic Director of National Dance Company Wales, positioning the company at the forefront of contemporary dance in the UK. His contemporary movement language translates contradictions and complex emotions into highly physical choreographic structures. For NDCW, Matthew collaborated with, among others, Marcos Morau, Melanie Lane, Andrea Costanzo Martini, Sarah Golding / Yukiko Masui, Osian Meilir, John-William Watson, and Boram Kim. Robinson is a graduate of the London Contemporary Dance School.
